Gerald
Wayne Miller, age 97, of Sedalia, Missouri, formerly of Windsor, Missouri,
passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023 at the University of Missouri Hospital in
Columbia, Missouri. He was born on April 9, 1926 in Climax Springs, Missouri the
son of Earl Owen Miller and Lura (Ellis) Miller.
Wayne graduated a year early, by combining two years of high school, from Climax
Springs High School on April 30, 1944. In June of 1944 he enlisted in the United
States Army Air Corp during World War II in the Pacific Fleet as a Sargent of
the 89th Bomber Squadron. Wayne was employed at the International Shoe Factory
in Windsor, Missouri for forty years as a healer. On February 15, 1947 he was
united in marriage to Dovie James. She preceded him in death in 1997.
Wayne was a member of the Jehovah Witness since 1963. He was an accomplished
checker player, competing in tournaments most all his life. Wayne began playing
checkers in 1957. He was a Missouri State Champion numerous years and one year
won the National Championship.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, Earl Edward Miller
and a daughter, Joyce Lynn Brewington.
He is survived by two sons; Donald Wayne Miller, of Grain Valley, Missouri and
Daniel Ray Miller, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, eleven grandchildren, numerous
great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by
a brother, Kenneth Miller, of Windsor, Missouri and a sister, Earlene McCoy, of
Shawnee, Kansas.
Memorial services for Wayne Miller will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October
10, 2023 the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw. Visitation will be held one hour
prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M.
